Interview with Monetha’s Software Developer | Petras
Tell us a bit more about your professional background? How did you get into software development?
I’m a theoretical physicist. Theoretical physics is all about crunching numbers with the help of software tools. Sometimes, however, the tools you need don’t exist, so you must build your own. That’s how I started.
What do you love about your profession?
There are many things one can love (and hate) about software development. Software projects are usually complex and require a lot of thinking, like a never-ending puzzle which’s solution constantly changes. You never know what’s going to be happening next month so it’s really hard to get bored.
What is your philosophy behind software development?
First you learn to write code that compiles and works. Then you learn to write code that does what you want. After that you learn to write code that is efficient and fast. Finally, you learn to write code that is simple. Simplicity is hard, but really worth it.
What brought you to Monetha? What do you like about the product?
Monetha has very ambitious goals and has caught my attention immediately when Recruitment Specialist – Monika contacted me. I agree that in this fake news era genuine trust and reputation is worth a lot, probably much more than a years’ worth of prime-time internet ads. Providing a trust preserving mechanism in a trustless environment is a very interesting and worthwhile thing to spend time on. The idea of making a significant dent in the scamming / faking industry is also very appealing. And all of this is, of course, is not without various technical challenges, which is more than ok for me.
Any funny/interesting stories that you can share from your time in Monetha?
Not really ? Unless you find software development fun and it’s a very different kind of fun, believe me.
